Couple was married 14 years, husband died in 1996 without a will. Deed does not name wife as joint owner. She still live in house and pay taxes & insurance in her name. Husband had 3 adult children from previous marriage. How can wife add her name to deed to apply fo home improvement loan

This is IL intestate law:

  • If a person dies without a will and leaves a spouse and other heirs, then the surviving spouse and heirs share the estate, with one half of the estate going to the spouse and the other half to the descendants.
  • The surviving spouse is entitled to receive at least $10,000 from the deceased, with an additional $5,000 for each child.
