rights as a minor child to survivor benefits

Sent to Legal Experts August 20 07:38 AM

my mother just applied for me to receive survivor benefits from my deceased father of whom died last year. i am going to be 18 in 4 weeks and this check which is a lump sum amount is going in my sisters account because my name is also added to her account. i want to know if this check is for only me or for my mother to have control of or what. the intake worker at social security said i was competent , and it would be sent to and account that had my name on it. my mother said she is getting the money, but is going to spend it on me yet i know different. how do i protect my rights as still being a minor
